Fundamentals - Software/Firmware Update Procedure for PIERRE Devices
To ensure optimal performance and access to the latest features, PIERRE devices can be updated directly through the Smart PIERRE and PIERRE Partner applications. Please follow the instructions below to check device information and perform software updates.
Description
PIERRE devices are updated over the air (OTA). The update is downloaded and installed by the device itself, so no cable and no local connection are needed.
How an Update Runs
- The device downloads the firmware and installs it.
- On a controller, the LED turns orange while the update is running.
- The device restarts on the new firmware once the update is complete.
During the Update
Do not power the device off while the update is running. On a controller this means: while the LED is orange, leave it alone.
If the Update Is Interrupted
- The device requests the update again at its next start, and the process resumes.
- If it does not, the update can be started manually from the app.
Technical Notes
- Check that the device has a stable network connection before starting an update. An unstable connection is the usual cause of an interrupted update.
- Do not schedule updates immediately before handover or during a period when the customer depends on the system.
- Update the devices in an installation to a consistent state rather than leaving some behind; mixed firmware versions make later fault-finding harder.
- Displays are supervised by the PIERRE Launcher, which handles their updates.
Displays

Open the Smart PIERRE application.

Navigate to Menu → Settings → Displays.

Select the desired display.

Open the Info tab.
The Info tab provides details about the device, including:

Display type
-
Application version
-
Launcher version
-
Knob version (if applicable)
If a newer software version is available, a blue Update button will appear. Click Update to start the upgrade process.
Gateways (Bridges)
Future EV Chargers will also be managed from this menu.

Open the Smart PIERRE application.

Navigate to Menu → Settings → Bridges.

Select the desired bridge.

Open the Info tab.
The Info tab provides:

Device type
-
Build version
If a software update is available, a blue Update button will appear. Click Update to begin the update.
Intercoms
Future PIERRE Intercom models will also be available from this menu.

Open the Smart PIERRE application.

Navigate to Menu → Settings → Intercoms.

Select the desired intercom.

Open the Info tab.
The Info tab provides:

Device type
-
Build version
If a software update is available, a blue Update button will appear. Click Update to start the upgrade.
PIERRE Pro and PIERRE Lite Controllers

Open the PIERRE Partner application.

Select the appropriate building.
-
Locate the desired controller in the device list.

Press and hold the controller entry.

Open the Info tab.
The Info tab provides:

Controller type
-
Build version
If a software update is available, a blue Update button will appear. Click Update to initiate the update process.
Target Build
Available for PIERRE Displays and PIERRE Controllers (Pro and Lite)
Partners with extended privileges have access to the Target Build field. This feature allows devices to be updated to a specific firmware version instead of the latest version available in the selected update channel.
Important:

Downgrading to an older firmware version is not supported.

Use this feature with caution and only when necessary.

Always select firmware versions marked as Production.

Ensure that the selected firmware version is approved for the device's configured Update Channel.

Installing an incorrect or unapproved firmware version may result in unexpected device behavior.
If you are unsure which firmware version should be used, please contact PIERRE Technical Support before proceeding.
Important Notes

Ensure the device remains powered and connected to the network during the update process.

Do not disconnect power or network connectivity until the update has completed successfully.

Update duration may vary depending on the device type and network conditions.
