Overview
The SFP+ DAC cable is a 5 metre passive twinax copper assembly with SFP+ connectors moulded onto both ends, for short 10 Gigabit links within a rack or between adjacent racks.
Because it is passive it needs no transceivers and draws almost no power, which makes it cheaper to deploy and cooler to run than a fibre pair plus optics over the same distance.
It carries 10.3 Gbit/s over 30 AWG conductors and operates from 0 °C to +70 °C. Use it to uplink a PIERRE network switch to the site core switch or router where the two sit within cable reach; beyond that, move to fibre with SFP+ optics.
A 2 m version is available as the 10G SFP+ DAC cable.
