Solution - NFC Tag and RFID Card
Description
The PIERRE NFC Tag and RFID Card provide a simple method of user identification and access control within the PIERRE system.
Compatible Tags and Cards operate at 13.56 MHz and are assigned to a specific user through the Tokens section of the Smart PIERRE application.
The Tag or Card itself does not have access permissions. Access permissions are determined by the Roles assigned to the user to whom the Tag or Card is registered.
When the Tag or Card is presented to a compatible PIERRE RFID reader, the system identifies the associated user and checks whether that user has permission to access the requested door or gate.
Access Permissions
Access is determined by the user's assigned Roles.
For access to be granted:
-
the NFC Tag or RFID Card must be registered to the user,
-
the user must have the appropriate Role assigned,
-
the required door or gate must be included in that Role,
-
the corresponding RFID/PIN Reader must also be included in that Role.
This means that permissions belong to the user, not to the NFC Tag or RFID Card.
If the user's Role or access permissions are changed, the same Tag or Card automatically follows the updated permissions of that user.
Adding a Tag or RFID Card
NFC Tags and RFID Cards are assigned to users through the Smart PIERRE application.
-
Open the required user profile.
-
Go to the Tokens section.
-
Tap Add to add a new Token.
-
Hold the NFC Tag or RFID Card close to the smartphone's NFC reading area.
-
Keep it in position until the registration process is complete.
Once registered, the Tag or Card is associated with that user and can be used for identification at compatible PIERRE RFID readers.
Using the Tag or RFID Card
To request access, hold the registered NFC Tag or RFID Card close to the compatible RFID reader.
The PIERRE system identifies the user associated with the Token and checks the user's current Role-based permissions.
If the user has the required access permission, the corresponding door or gate can be opened.
Supported Formats
Compatible Tokens can be available in different physical formats, including:
-
NFC Tag / Sticker – A small, thin Token that can be attached to a suitable surface.
-
RFID Card – A card-format Token that can be carried by the user.
-
Keychain Fob – A compact Token that can be carried with the user's keys.
The Token must be compatible with the PIERRE system and operate at 13.56 MHz.
Technical Notes
-
Compatible NFC Tags and RFID Cards must operate at 13.56 MHz.
-
A Tag or Card does not contain its own PIERRE access permissions; it identifies the user to whom it is assigned.
-
Access is determined by the Roles and permissions of the associated user.
-
The required door or gate and the corresponding RFID/PIN Reader must be included in the appropriate Role.
-
The smartphone's NFC function is used when registering the Token in the Smart PIERRE application.
-
The smartphone must support NFC and NFC must be enabled during registration.
-
The NFC reading area differs between smartphone models, so the Tag or Card must be positioned close to the correct area during registration.
-
NFC Tags should not be installed directly on metal surfaces, as metal can interfere with NFC communication.
-
If a Tag or Card is lost or should no longer be used, it should be removed from the user's Tokens section.
