Solution - Blinds Control
Description
Blinds are driven by a bi-directional motor, controlled from the app, from wall buttons and from automations. Where the blind has lamellas, their angle can also be set, so light and privacy can be adjusted without closing the blind completely.
Control from the App
The Smart PIERRE application provides three controls: Up, Stop and Down.
- The blind can be moved to any position and stopped at any point.
- The lamella angle can be set separately from the position.
- In the PIERRE Partner application only the Up and Down directions have to be configured.
How the Motor Stops
The controller sends the signal to the relay to start the motor. It stops when:
- the configured movement timeout is reached, or the blind reaches its end position;
- either direction button is pressed again on the wall switch while the blind is moving;
- the Stop button is pressed in the Smart PIERRE application.
Wiring
The blind motor is connected with four conductors:
- L1 — up direction
- L2 — down direction
- N — neutral
- PE — protective earth
Automation
- Scheduled operation, for example opening at sunrise and closing in the evening.
- Lamella angle adjusted by measured sunlight, to block direct sun during the hottest hours.
- Position adjusted by room temperature, working together with heating and cooling.
- Blinds closed automatically when the security system is armed.
Keep in Mind
- PIERRE motors have a built-in automatic stopper, so no additional configuration is needed for the end positions.
- With a third-party motor, the stopper must be adjusted correctly by the installer. The PIERRE system does not configure or adjust motor end limits.
- Only standard wired blind and shutter motors with simple up/down control can be integrated. Motors with built-in smart functionality, radio receivers or wireless remote controls are not supported.
Technical Notes
- The two directions must be interlocked so both are never energised at the same time.
- Measure the real travel time on site and set the movement timeout slightly above it.
- Only standard wired blind and shutter motors with simple up/down control can be integrated. Motors with built-in smart functionality, radio receivers or wireless remote controls are not supported.

Troubleshooting
First take PIERRE out of the loop and check that the motor works without smart control (see the next question).
Bypass the controller: with the supply switched off, disconnect the motor's UP wire (L1) or DOWN wire (L2) from the relay output and connect it directly to the phase from the circuit breaker. Switch on: the motor must run in that direction. Test one direction at a time — never connect L1 and L2 to the phase together, this destroys the motor. Work on the mains wiring must be done by a qualified electrician.
Check the relay contacts and the protection varistor across the relay coil; a damaged relay or varistor can hold or release the output at the wrong moment.
A buzzing motor is receiving power but cannot turn. Check that only one direction is energised at a time (L1 or L2, never both), check the motor's end stops and run capacitor, and check the relay contacts for burnt or welded contacts.
Measure the resistance of the motor windings. An open winding means the motor is faulty.
Set them during installation, before commissioning, with the fine adjustment on the motor itself (the motor has its own manual control). If they are set wrong, the blind either does not rise fully or does not close fully.
Yes, from the Smart PIERRE app or a PIERRE display.
Every blind motor needs a dedicated cable to the PIERRE distribution box, and every switch must also have a direct cable to the PIERRE distribution box.
