Solution - Battery Backup
Description
The PIERRE system supports battery backup operation for critical devices through compatible 12 VDC power supplies with integrated battery charging functionality.
During a mains power failure, the power supply automatically switches to battery operation, ensuring uninterrupted power delivery to connected devices.
Applications
Battery backup is recommended for devices that must remain operational during power outages, including:
- PIERRE controllers
- Security and access control devices
- Communication equipment
- Other critical automation components
Battery Requirements
The system is designed to operate with standard 12 VDC sealed lead-acid (SLA) batteries or equivalent battery technologies supported by the selected power supply.
The most commonly used battery capacity is:
| Battery Voltage | Capacity | Typical Application |
|---|---|---|
| 12 VDC | 7 Ah | Standard backup solution |
Higher-capacity batteries may also be used, provided they are supported by the power supply charger specifications.
Backup Duration
The battery autonomy depends on:
- Total system power consumption
- Battery capacity (Ah)
- Battery condition and age
- Ambient temperature
Using a higher-capacity battery increases the available backup operating time during a power outage.
Benefits
- Continuous operation during power failures
- Increased system reliability
- Maintained communication between system components
- Uninterrupted operation of security and access control functions
- Protection against short-term power interruptions
Note: Battery sizing should be calculated according to the total power consumption of the connected devices and the required backup operating time.
