Open/Close Controller Doors, Gates Dry Contact Garage door

Description

The PIERRE system can control a compatible garage door by sending an external control command to the garage door motor.

In a typical installation, a PIERRE Controller controls a relay whose potential-free contact is connected to the garage door motor's external push-button or control input. The relay briefly closes the contact, emulating a conventional wall-mounted push button.

The garage door motor remains responsible for the actual movement and its internal safety functions.

How the Control Works

Most compatible garage door motors provide an external control input for a wall-mounted push button or other control device.

When a command is issued:

  1. The PIERRE Controller activates the corresponding output.

  2. The relay briefly closes its potential-free contact.

  3. The garage door controller detects the pulse as an external command.

  4. The garage door motor performs the corresponding action according to its own control logic.

Depending on the garage door motor, a single input may provide sequential Open → Stop → Close control, while other systems may provide separate inputs for different commands.

The required control method must always be verified in the garage door motor manufacturer's documentation.

Configuration

Once connected, the garage door can be configured in the PIERRE Partner application as the appropriate Door I/O.

The configured Door can then be assigned to the required Role and made available to authorized users and PIERRE interfaces.

Control Options

Depending on the project configuration, the garage door can be controlled through:

  • the Smart PIERRE application,

  • a compatible PIERRE Display,

  • an RFID/PIN Reader using an authorized Card, Tag or PIN,

  • Scenes,

  • Automations.

Door Status

If the actual Open/Closed status of the garage door needs to be displayed in the PIERRE system, a suitable position feedback signal, such as a magnetic contact or other compatible status input, is required.

Without physical position feedback, PIERRE can send the control command but cannot reliably determine the actual position of the garage door.

Technical Notes

  • The PIERRE Controller does not power the garage door motor. It only sends the required control command through the appropriate relay/interface.

  • Where the garage door controller requires a potential-free input, an appropriate potential-free relay contact must be used.

  • The required pulse duration must follow the garage door motor manufacturer's specifications.

  • Verify whether the motor uses a single sequential control input or separate Open/Close inputs before wiring and configuration.

  • Factory safety functions such as photocells, obstacle detection, travel limits and motor protection must remain connected to the garage door controller and must not be bypassed by PIERRE.

  • Where manual operation during a power failure is required, the garage door manufacturer's specified manual or emergency release mechanism must remain available.

  • Installation and wiring must follow the applicable PIERRE wiring documentation, the garage door motor manufacturer's documentation and applicable electrical safety requirements.

Troubleshooting

Q
Has the device been added to the configuration?
A

If not: Add it in the PIERRE Partner app.

Q
Is the door motor's control input connected to GND and one of the controller's outputs?
A

If not, wire it as shown in the diagram. To rule out the motor and its cable, disconnect the control wire from the controller output and briefly connect it to +12 V: if the door starts moving, everything after the controller works. Alternatively move the wire to another free output and change the pin in the PIERRE Partner app.

Q
Should the contact sensor report the open or the closed state?
A

Mount the sensor so that it closes when the door or gate is fully closed. The sensor only distinguishes closed from not closed, so a half-open door is reported as open — which is what you want to know.

Q
What do the controller LED colours mean?
A

Green – Online: the controller is connected to the network and operating normally. Red – Offline: the controller is disconnected from the network, or there is no internet access. White – Commissioning: the controller has started in commissioning mode and is waiting to be commissioned. Light blue – AP mode: the controller is broadcasting its own network for setup or configuration. Dark blue – Selected in the app: the controller is currently selected in the PIERRE Partner app, which helps you identify the physical controller in the cabinet. Purple – Searching for IP address: the controller is waiting to receive an IP address from the router. Orange – Firmware update: a firmware update is in progress; do not power off the controller while the LED is orange.

Q
What happens if there is a power outage?
A

If the power goes out, smart devices will retain their last state and resume functionality when power is restored. For critical devices, battery backups can be used to maintain operation during an outage.
